SigaME and SureKits in the same hospital: where each fits

SigaME and SureKits are two Identhis products that can run side by side in the same hospital, each with its own job. Each covers its own part of the hospital, the two touch in the operating room, and the hospital can start with either one.

In short
  • SigaME is the suite for the hospital's operation: it coordinates tasks, locates equipment and people, follows the patient, mobilizes critical teams and monitors conditions. It is made for hospitals.
  • SureKits is the RFID identification and reading layer for surgical instruments. It integrates with the sterile processing software the hospital already uses and is not sterile processing management software.
  • The two touch in the operating room. SigaME follows the box and the room, and SureKits identifies and checks each instrument.
  • The hospital can start with either one, whichever problem weighs most today.

Two routines inside the same hospital

A hospital has an operations routine and an instrument routine. The operations one is made of requests, movements, rooms waiting for cleaning and equipment nobody can find. The instrument one starts in the operating room, goes through the decontamination area and assembly and ends in storage of the sterile material.

Identhis has a product for each. SigaME is the suite for hospital operations and is made for hospitals. SureKits is RFID traceability of surgical instruments and also serves sterile processing companies and companies that rent instruments for OPME. They are two products that can run side by side.

The hospital's operation: what SigaME covers

SigaME is a suite of five modules that work on the same data. All of them share one platform, with a single alert center, a Results page and the SigaME Mobile app. It works on its own: all registration is done in it, and integrations with the HIS, CCTV and e-mail are optional.

Each module is contracted independently or in combination:

  1. Flow. Tasks, mobile teams, queues and SLAs, with a two-tap request. It serves patient transport, cleaning, hospitality, logistics and support.
  2. RTLS. Equipment, materials and people on the map, in real time, with Wi-Fi, BLE, RFID and GNSS.
  3. Journey. Patient tracking: time per stage, bottlenecks and room status.
  4. TRR. Critical teams mobilized in clinical codes, with alarm, escalation and audit.
  5. Sense. Temperature, humidity and pressure in refrigerators, pharmacies and rooms.

The instrument cycle: what SureKits covers

SureKits handles RFID identification and reading: the tag on each instrument, the Identix reading equipment and the checking of items. Process control, batch traceability and audit stay in the sterile processing management software the hospital already uses, which SureKits integrates with.

It follows the instruments through four stages:

  1. In the operating room. With the instruments on the reading table or checked with the collector on a non-metallic table, the count checks all items before surgery.
  2. At the end of surgery. The scrub nurse or nurse separates what was used from what was not, and the count is made with the collector in two steps, one for each group.
  3. In decontamination. The instruments are recounted on a reading table and prepared for cleaning according to type, which adds redundancy to the process.
  4. In assembly and storage. The cycle of each instrument is monitored until it returns to sterile stock, and alerts warn when sterilization is close to expiring.

Where the two meet

The point of contact is the operating room and the path the material takes to reach it. The room depends on boxes, kits, carts, trays and instruments arriving at the right place at the right time. The two products look at it from different angles: SigaME at the box and the room, SureKits at each instrument.

  1. The box that arrives. In SigaME, a passive RFID tag on a surgical box is read at portals and passage points. The RTLS records entry and exit and shows whether the box reached the operating room.
  2. What is inside the box. In SureKits, reading checks each instrument before surgery and separates used from unused at the end of it. To guarantee reading of 100%, the instruments lie on a non-metallic table.
  3. The room after surgery. In SigaME, Flow creates the cleaning task and, with RTLS, measures its start and end by the professional's presence. Meanwhile, SureKits follows the instruments to decontamination.

Where the two do not meet

SigaME records the presence and passage of the box at known places. Checking the instruments inside it, item by item, is the job of SureKits, which does not read 100% inside a closed box.

SureKits, for its part, knows which instrument is there. It is not sterile processing management software, and the history and the rules stay in the sterile processing software and the hospital systems. It also does not coordinate team tasks or locate people and equipment in the building, which is the work of SigaME.

There is also a difference in audience. SigaME is made for hospitals, while SureKits also serves sterile processing companies and companies that rent instruments for OPME.

RDC 15/2012 covers traceability of processing, including sterilization batches, and does not require individual RFID on each instrument. [20]

How to start with one of the two

The hospital starts with the problem that weighs most today. Tasks that do not reach the right person, equipment nobody can find, waits nobody measures, critical teams called by phone and temperature out of range point to a SigaME module. Manual checking of instruments points to SureKits.

On either path, it is worth starting with a pilot whose indicators are agreed up front.

  1. Choose the problem. SigaME has a module for each operational pain. SureKits has a single focus, surgical instruments.
  2. Start small. In SigaME, one module is enough, and all registration is done in it. In SureKits, the starting point is counting with Identix RFID collectors, which read the instrument tags laid on a non-metallic table.
  3. Grow at the hospital's pace. SigaME gains new modules and combined functions, such as Flow dispatching the closest professional, which uses RTLS. SureKits adds DR-max reading tables, in decontamination and assembly, and the operating-room module on the same tag base.
  4. Keep what the team already uses. SureKits integrates with the hospital's sterile processing software, and the tags are applied at the hospital itself, without taking instruments out of the institution, with no transport cost and no surgeries canceled because of the application.

Frequently asked questions

Are SigaME and SureKits the same product?

No. They are two Identhis products that can run side by side in the same hospital. SigaME coordinates the operation, and SureKits identifies and reads surgical instruments.

Do I have to contract both?

No. The hospital starts with the problem that weighs most today. Within SigaME, each module is also contracted independently or in combination.

Does SureKits replace the sterile processing software?

No. It handles RFID identification and reading and integrates with the sterile processing software the hospital already uses, which keeps the history and applies the rules.

Is SigaME for sterile processing companies?

No. SigaME is made for hospitals. SureKits serves hospitals, sterile processing companies and companies that rent instruments for OPME.

Does SigaME need the hospital's system (HIS)?

No. SigaME works on its own, and all registration is done in it. Integrations with the HIS, CCTV and e-mail are optional and do not block rollout.

Does SigaME follow the surgical box?

Yes, as an item that passes RFID portals, which record entry and exit. Checking each instrument inside the box is the job of SureKits, with the instruments on a non-metallic table.
